Our Sustainability Promise & Their Story
Our Hippy Home Collection was developed to have only fair trade products that are ethical, eco -friendly, sustainable and traceable. This is done by offering income-generating opportunities to craftspeople in developing countries. By following the highest standards of fair trade practices it ensures that craftspeople receive payment, have fair working conditions and get paid in advance at minimum the market value for all items.
We are taking steps to make our One Stop Hippy Shop 100 % fair trade. But for now, these are the amazing communities we have the pleasure of working with.
Baskets
Our baskets are handcrafted by skilled artisans across Africa, using traditional weaving techniques passed down through generations.
These artisans, many of whom live in low-income communities, rely on temporary labor and the sale of their handmade crafts to support their families. Most weavers are based in the dry eastern regions of Africa, where the climate is ideal for cultivating sisal—a key material in their work and their primary source of income. In Central Kenya, artisans often supplement their livelihoods through subsistence farming on small plots of land, weaving beautiful baskets from banana leaves to earn additional income.
Meditation Bowls
Handcrafted Meditation Bowls with Purpose – Ethical, Fair Trade & Rooted in Tradition.
Our Tibetan-style meditation bowls are handcrafted in India by Nepali artisans from the Tibetan exile community in Dharamsala. These skilled makers—many of whom are former political prisoners, monks, and nuns—create each bowl using traditional techniques passed down through generations.
In partnership with a fair trade organization rooted in the Gu-Chu-Sum Movement, your purchase supports ethical employment, human rights awareness, and provides a sustainable livelihood for refugees rebuilding their lives.
By purchasing one of our fair trade meditation bowls, you’re not only bringing peace and mindfulness into your home—you’re also supporting a powerful cause and helping artisans rebuild their lives through sustainable income.
Incense
Our handcrafted incense is ethically sourced through a certified Fair Trade organization that empowers women artisans in Thailand and Nepal. By supporting small-scale co-ops, this initiative helps preserve cultural heritage while providing stable, dignified income to communities in need. Each incense stick is part of a sustainable lifestyle movement—designed, developed, and produced with care for both people and the planet. When you choose our Fair Trade incense, you're not only enhancing your space with natural fragrance, you're helping transform lives.
Pottery
In the heart of Guanajuato, Mexico, our pottery is created by a small, family-owned ceramic workshop with decades of tradition. Since the late 1970s, women artisans have skillfully hand-painted each piece while male artisans manage the kilns—bringing each design to life with care and precision. Every item is lead-free, microwave safe, dishwasher safe, and marked with its own unique hand-painted logo. These pieces are more than functional—they’re true works of art, crafted with heritage and pride.
Metal Art
Handcrafted in the heart of Haiti, our metal wall art comes from a family-run workshop in a vibrant artisan community near Port-au-Prince. Each piece begins its journey as a repurposed steel oil drum—cut, shaped, and transformed entirely by hand using time-honored techniques passed down through generations. Artisans skillfully carve intricate patterns, from delicate branches to textured geckos, finishing each work with paint or a protective lacquer. The result is a striking piece of sustainable art, signed by the artist and completely unique. Add a bold, meaningful statement to your home while supporting fair trade craftsmanship.
Painted Metal Art
Infuse your space with color, culture, and craftsmanship through our vibrant collection of hand-painted metal wall art. Each piece is handcrafted by a talented collective of young artisans in Haiti, brought together through a creative initiative that began in the early 1990s. This organization was founded with a clear mission: to provide meaningful employment, nurture artistic talent, and uplift local communities by transforming raw potential into skilled craftsmanship.
The group focuses on training unskilled individuals in traditional and contemporary art techniques—helping them become independent artisans with sustainable careers. Their passion for design and detail shines through in every piece they create, from playful geckos to graceful dragonflies and charming frogs. Made from recycled metal and finished with vibrant, hand-applied paint, each artwork reflects the energy and resilience of the people behind it.
This isn’t just décor—it’s a celebration of culture and creativity. Every metal wall hanging carries a deeper story of empowerment, artistry, and hope. Whether you're decorating your home or searching for a unique gift with purpose, our Haitian-made wall art brings beauty, meaning, and a warm island spirit into your life.
